Clara Ursitti

I found an interesting article about three artists who are working with smell. The first one is Clara Ursitti. Ursitti wanted to make an smell-selfportrait en when she was doing research she found an invantion of the scientist George Todd which was a synthetic nose. This synthetic nose could create every smell you want. And so she could continue to make smells.

When she was doing another research she found out that a lot of people were interested in a bottle with the smell of their beloved ones which was practicly always a combination of the smell of sweat and the smell of their most worn perfume. A lot of people were prepared to pay a lot of money for that kind of bottle.

In 1998 Ursitti made an piece of art that she called: 'Bill'. This artwork only existed of the smell of sperm. The title and the smell are possible reffering to the formal president of the United States, Bill Clinton.

In 1998 she also made another artwork that she called: Sub Club. For this piece of art she went to a club in glasgow to take monsters of the smell en to measure the temperature. The final artwork did not only exist of the smell of the club but it also felt like you were in this club, because it was the same temperature and because the air had the same amount of humidity.
